fresh smoothies.
Smoothies are a great way to pack in fresh fruits and vegetables (yes veggies) into your diet. I love having these in the summer as part of my breakfast– especially when it has been as hot as its been this past month!
Contrary to what a lot of people think– you really don’t need some fancy blender to make a smoothie. I have a hand held blender that was pretty inexpensive and it whips them up so quickly right in the glass I drink from.
Here are some ideas of what to add to your smoothies:
Immune-Boosting – lemon, grated ginger, spinach, blueberries, citrus fruit
Good Morning – banana, spinach, berries, almond milk, hemp milk, avocado, pear
Superfoods – maca root powder, blueberries, kale, acai berries, coconut water, flax seed
Greens, Greens, Greens! – cucumber, celery, parsley, cilantro, swiss chard, kale, romaine, dandelion greens, spinach
Here is my go-to recipe for the summer months:
- 1 cup of coconut water
- 4 ice cubes
- half of a banana
- half cup of blueberries
- few leaves of kale
- 1 tbsp of earth balance coconut peanut butter
Blend until smooth and pair with your other favorite breakfast foods. Enjoy!
